ECD: Eight Capable Dancers
|
This class will include dances from Playford for four couples. There
may be many different reconstructions of these dances, many of which
I've seen from my travels. I've reconstructed these dances to be what
I would consider as close to Playford as possible in an attempt to
better standardize these dances. These dances include Newcastle,
Nonesuch, and Lull Me Beyond Thee.

One Hour of Dance
|
Come out and dance with us! Jump in and out as
you please as we attempt to dance our way through as many tunes as possible (no
pausing) in a single class timeslot, faking it and improving wherever we don't
know something or have odd numbers of people for the traditional dance. Anyone
brave enough to mind not messing up as we drag people through dances on the fly
are welcome! (may not be quite suitable for an absolute beginner though)
Assorted styles. We'll call them as best we can. |

The New Spagnoletta
|
There are many 16th Century Italian dances that are in the "Spanish style". This class will explore one of them, Spagnoletta Nuova from Fabritio Caroso's Nobiltà di Dame (1600). Due to the complexity of the dance, it is highly recommended that participants have at least an intermediate level of experience with 16th C. Italian dance.

Dance Interaction - How to Perform while Dancing
|
In Period, as it is in the Current Middle Ages, people danced for more
than just the joy of dancing. People danced to get noticed, to
impress a love interest, to show off their skills, to entertain, and for
many other reasons. In this class, I will take some very basic well
known dances (Jenny Pluck Pears, Rufty Tufty, and Heart's Ease), and
teach how to interact with your partner and observers while
dancing. Be you outgoing or shy, skilled or a novice, you will take
away practical techniques that you can practice while dancing. Oh, and
dancing this way is a ton of fun, too!

Les Bouffons
|
Come learn "Les Bouffons," a wooden sword dance from Arbeau. Instructor is bringing 16 dowel rods, so the class will cap at 16 unless other people can bring more. Ideal size is 2-3 ft, with a diameter of .75-1 in. Please note, this is for sets of four, so if you're planning on bringing more dowel rods, bring them in groups of four. Instructor will also sell her extra rods at the end of class at cost.
